FOOD IS ESSENTIAL!
Rendez-vous dans notre galerie parisienne du 26 janvier au 3 février autour de notre nouvelle exposition consacrée à la série Food For Degens de l’artiste visionnaire Kevin Abosch.
Un print ultra premium, fabriqué à l’atelier Clot à Paris, a été édité dans le cadre de cette exposition, pouvant être commandé uniquement pendant la durée de l’exposition (Timed Edition). Kevin Abosch ne produit que très peu de prints ; cette oeuvre est donc rare et déjà collector !
Entretien avec Kevin Abosch sur l’exposition « Food For Degens » (janvier 2024)
• Pourquoi cette série « Food For Degens » ? Vous l’avez-vous imaginée après l’énorme succès de la série « Open Edition », où les collectionneurs sont presque devenus fous ?
Les « degens » semblaient très affamés, et même si on m’a déconseillé de les nourrir, j’ai eu pitié d’eux… donc, je les ai nourris.
• Que pensez-vous de ces « degens » ?
Tout d’abord, je suis moi-même un « degen », mais il y a différents types de « degens ». J’aime ceux qui s’amusent et qui savent se moquer d’eux-mêmes. Je ne suis pas fan des méchants qui intimident les autres en ligne.
• Pour notre exposition, nous éditons un print premium exclusif, de votre NFT « Still Life (Food for Degens) ». Est-ce une référence à la boîte de soupe Campbell de Warhol, au 21e siècle ? Pourrions-nous parler de pop crypto-art, facile à acheter, facile à consommer ?
Il est compréhensible que l’on puisse la comparer à la boîte de soupe Campbell, mais il n’y a pas de lien conceptuel. Je voulais un proxy visuel pour communiquer la praticité de la nourriture. La boîte ornée de « FOOD » a bien fonctionné. La couleur jaune a joué un rôle important dans beaucoup de mes œuvres depuis 30 ans. Par elle-même, elle est un phare. Associée au noir, elle sert d’avertissement.
• Vous ne faites pas beaucoup de prints et nous sommes vraiment heureux de proposer le print FOOD à nos collectionneurs. Quelle était le dernier print que vous avez vendu ?
Évidemment, je fais des tirages photographiques depuis des décennies, et j’ai exposé des tirages uniques de 2 mètres de mes photographies synthétiques à Art Basel et à Paris Photo, mais c’est ma première édition limitée à cette échelle.
• Quelques mots sur votre token $FOOD, lancé en mai 2023 ?
Une de mes premières œuvres était « I AM A COIN », dans laquelle les jetons fongibles eux-mêmes étaient les œuvres d’art. Le jeton est sacré pour moi. J’ai créé des jetons $FOOD comme une œuvre complémentaire au sein de ce qui est devenu la communauté FOOD FOR DEGENS.

Join us at our Parisian gallery from January 26th to February 3rd for our new exhibition dedicated to the Food For Degens series by the visionary artist Kevin Abosch.
Kevin Abosch is a visionary and pioneering artist, born in 1969. Recognized for his innovative approach that blends traditional mediums with generative methods such as machine learning and blockchain, he stands out for his bold exploration of the digital realm.

An ultra-premium print, produced at the Atelier Clot in Paris, will be released for the occasion and available for order only during the exhibition. Kevin produces very few prints; the one we are offering is therefore rare and already a collector’s item!
The opening will take place on Friday, January 26th at 6:00 PM, with the artist in attendance.

• Why this « Food For Degens » series? Did you propose it after the tremendous success of your « Open Edition » one, where collectors got almost crazy?
The degens seemed very hungry, and while I was warned not to feed them, I felt for them… so, I fed them.
• What do you think about these « degens »?
First of all, I am a degen myself, but there are different types of degens. I like the ones who have fun and are able to make fun of themselves. I’m not a fan of the nasty ones who bully others online.
• We are editing for our exhibition an exclusive premium print, from your NFT « Still Life (Food for Degens) ». Is it a reference to Warhol Campbell’s can, in the 21st Century? Could we talk about pop crypto-art, easy to buy, easy to consume?
It’s understandable that one could relate it to The Campbell’s soup can, but there is no conceptual connection. I wanted a visual proxy to to communicate the practicality of food. The can emblazoned with “FOOD” worked well. The color yellow has featured prominently in much of my work going back 30 years. By itself, it is beacon. Paired with black, it serves as a warning.
• You don’t make many prints and we are definitely glad to propose the FOOD print to our collectors. What was the last print you sold?
Obviously I have made photographic prints for decades, and I have shown unique 2 meter prints of my synthetic photography at Art Basel and Paris Photo, but this is my first limited edition at this scale.
• A few words about your token $FOOD, launched in May 2023?
One of my first works was I AM A COIN in which the fungible tokens themselves were the works of art. The token is sacred to me. I made $FOOD tokens as a complementary work within what has become the FOOD FOR DEGENS community.
